- Firstly, you to process an e-Form “M”, and fill all the necessary information in it. Importers would pay an administrative charge of 1% of FOB value of all imports based on the exchange rate on the approved e-Form M. This e-Form “M” can be processed from designated banks and non-designated banks alike, but the payment of import duty is allowed only at designated banks, and a copy of the duty payment receipt will be used at the point of payment. The banks will do all the necessary process and notify the Nigeria Custom Service, Federal Ministry of Industry, and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

- You must present a bill of landing, a duly completed form “M”, commercial invoice exit note, single goods declaration, packing list, and a product certificate all at the point of entry.
The Nigeria Custom Service uses a pre-arrival assessment report (PAAR) system that allows importers to submit their import documents online for assessment and clearance prior to the arrival of the cargo.
There are certain goods that are prohibited to enter into Nigeria. Namely;
- Cane or beet sugar and chemically pure sucrose, in solid form in retail pack.
- Fruit juice in retail packs
- Refined vegetable oils and fats. Crude vegetable oil is NOT banned from importation.
- Live or dead birds including frozen poultry.
- Cocoa butter, cakes and powder.
- Bagged cement
- Certain types of medicament such as chloroquine tablets and syrups, paracetamol tablet and syrups, multivitamins, intravenous fluids, waste pharmaceuticals and the likes.
- Used compressors and used fridge/freezers.
- Ball point pens and parts including refills.
- Indecent or obscene prints
- Materials of any description with a design which considering its purpose is likely in the opinion of the president to create a breach of the peace or to offend the religious views of any class of persons in Nigeria.
